I’ve had a lot of firsts this year. I couldn’t tell if I was nervous with excitement or fear. I hadn’t set an alarm clock since high school. A solid breakfast and a lunchbox hadn’t been my morning routine either. I used to jog to work, but that would be a ten-hour jog at six mph. I slumped into the driver’s seat and reluctantly started my commute. Preoccupied with new job jitters, I rounded the corner. The panorama that revealed itself made me involuntarily gasp. The contrasting beauty of nature, black and white, delicate pink, sky blue; a commute that will never lose the awe-inspiring, God-like appeal.

Funny you should say that. I googled him and the title of the shot “On the road to work” so I would know where the shot originated to help fuel a story. I said, “Self, where do you know that name from. Doug McIlroy, Doug McIlroy…” Couldn’t come up with it. So I just used the title. Blonde as they come! lol

Can you imagine getting to see that every morning? And it’s true, we want to know what the job is. The jitters and the view are so intriguing. Are you going to work on the Hadron Collider? An archaeologic dig? So many possibilities in the morning light.

The simple description of the colors is what hit me here: “black and white, delicate pink, sky blue” — I thought it was nice how it captured the impression of the photo without describing the actual objects in it. Nice job!

I am such a blonde (literally and figuratively). When I saw the prompt I immediately went to Google to try and figure out where this shot was taken. I kept thinking, “Doug McIlroy, Doug McIlroy, why do I know that name?” I googled you, then the title of the photo to get some inspiration for a story line pretaining to the location, to no avail. Then, because of the title of the shot, what I should write became clear. Thanks for commenting.

I have been tinkering with the idea that these Flash Fiction and 100 WCGU challenges are great ways to get juices flowing for full length stories. So far I’ve been using them as brain pilates. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated.

I haven’t had one yet to stretch into a full story, but I know what you mean. A lot of the ones that I read feel like pieces to something larger. I love that! Makes me wonder what’s next or what came before.
